Gear cutting for RF Tuner

I have recently cut two 90 tooth gears for a pre-selector tuner. I also made a direct indexing frame for more gear cutting. I hope to make the tuner work from 200 kHz to 3.2 mHz and from 3.2 to 30 mHz. The gears will tune the condensor and slug rack at the same time so as to provide the wide tuning range...I hope.

Nice looking gears Bill, would I be correct in assuming you made two so that you can do some kind of anti-backlash arrangement?

Anti backlash is a possibility but not so critical for an rf tuner .I often stack cut several blanks at a time , saves setup time in the future .Most ratios I use are 2:1 so there is always a chance to use spare gears in the future . Can,t have too many small gears Ray , thanks for the interest.

More gear cutting, just finished two 15 tooth pinions one for each end of the slug rack of the rf preselector tuner.

More gear cutting ,this time the input shaft pinion 15 teeth .8 module .It meshes with the 90 tooth wheel which is on the tuning condenser shaft, that 90 tooth wheel also meshes with the gear which drives the slug rack shaft that gear ratio yet to be determined , depends on the required tracking distance for the slugs and coils. Thanks Ray for the encouragement . It is a bit of a challenge to maintain accuracy over those small dimensions. I have completed a Shaft Distance Spotting gauge On the image can be seen two gears being test run for shaft positiIMG_3804.JPGoning .Cheers .

I'm in awe with you folk that can do this sort of thing Bill.
I cannot drill 2 holes that line up! Or make cutouts look good, as you can see from the front of the FM828 mods I've done.

Good on you Denys , you guys can do all that amazing computer electronics , I cannot .One day I might ask you to program an oscillator for my receiver project . If the r.f. tuner fails to work I might give away electronics and start on small steam engines ;

I did write some text to describe the images , and when I tried to send it it vanished sinse iam not a typist and it took atleast half an hour to compose I will not trytowrite it agian oops invalid meessage.

Thanks Ray. I now have the slug rack frame working . I have just finished making some 1.6 mil. thread and four nuts to mount the band change micro switches.

I have just finished milling the band change micro switch sequencer cam , cut the profile on the mill with rotary table , had to write up an instruction , a bit like programming I suppose.IMG_3815.JPG

Fitted the band change cam switching mechanism . Winding coils soon then ,then fitting tuning slugs and relays, and finally the electronics.IMG_3825.JPG
