That says my aging iphone 6 will work with Telstra's VoLTE, but the Telstra website says I need IOS 14.5 or later, and my older iphone can't be upgraded beyond IOS 12.57, so it's still not clear if 000 will work after October 28th?

I think I'll upgrade anyway.

3G network closure clarification. We are using a 4G modem for the Mt Wombat internet connection, it's a 4G Netcom NTC-140-02. However there is a subtle issue with VoLTE ( that is voice over LTE ) which in Telstra's case they use 4G Band 28 ( 700 Mhz), but, the Netcom doesn't have band 28 capability, so it's unable to do VoLTE calls, the question remains, does that mean the service will disconnect after October 28th? My reading is that we are still ok, as the policy of disconnecting devices from the network that don't support Band28 VoLTE will exempt those devices which are unable to make voice calls anyway. So because the Netcomm 4G NTC-140-02 is not designed to make voice calls it should not be disconnected. Fingers crossed we will still be connected after October 28th.

We will have this type of problem forever. Frustrating for sure and will cost us to upgrade, think of the change to digital TV, even now I have good TVs that fail to receiver all the new channels and no way to update software. My very old AM only transistor radio became redundant when hams went to SSB back in the 70's ! It forces us to replace things on a regular basis and scrap stuff that still works, manufactures and retailers are very happy no doubt.

Looks like dropping bombs on one’s enemies is redundant, just take out the 4G, 5G, 6G etc etc networks and game over, cyber attacks the way to go. Make sure you have some cash under the mattress just in case.

One of our customers uses Cisco modems, and they are now all just so much junk, replaced with Cradle Point super expensive modems. But this is just the latest in a long succession of mobile phone technology changes. I still have analogue phones and somewhere a CDMA modem, as well as 2G modems and phones, I can now add 3G modems and phones to the pile which includes some 80286 computers and a Macintosh Centris, although to be fair that still works, also analog TV's and heaven forbid some digital TV's.

Technology marches on. When all else fails Amateur Radio will still be going.
