I actually had to read the title twice before this made sense.
"Using an old 3D printer..."
I think the only thing old here must be me, as it has never occurred to me that there is such a thing as an 'old' 3D printer.
Maybe I should get out more.

I am sure that the word "old" as used in this context means "not new".

I'm sure you could use a "new" 3D printer but somehow I feel an "old" one will be more desirable as a new 3Dprinter is best to be used as a 3D printer, not hacked about.
Still, this is an interesting use for a surplus 3Dprinter, and there are a lot of older unused slow machines that could be pressed into service this way.
