WIA request for feedback on the ACMA Consultation 01/2021:

At the end of this document the WIA asks you to select an option "A Way Forward" Is it really a way forward, or is it a way backwards to dilute further the regulatory and operational conditions of our service.

Then considering past performance and outcomes do we have confidence in the WIA. I find it odd that in view of the recent outcomes with the foundation licence, the abolition of the state specific numbering, that the WIA would even ask the question -

"(sic) Would you support a solution that has the benefits of simplification, including self-regulation and cost reduction, with appropriate safeguards to ensure that the Australian amateur radio community is, on balance, no worse off?"

Asking a question with no specific detail to achieve the stated outcomes is evidence of a thought bubble.
Maybe the question posed should have been worded in this fashion -
(would you support a solution that retains the same safeguards in legislation achieving self-regulation and cost reduction)

Then we need to understand self-regulation, this has not worked well for many other groups, only advantage is that to government reduction in responsibility and care, followed with discontent within the fraternity.
It took the WIA over a month to provide a response in the form of a poll, imagine if it had to deal with even more self-regulatory matters.

Then we have the possibility of a private enterprise taking over the regulatory role, in part this has already taken place with the AMC exam and call sign management. Do you think self regulation comes free? that the AMC or even the WIA will preform this task for free ?
I think not, here we also lose control on the kind of remuneration we need to meet. Nothing is free, what we pay the ACMA presently is not a great sum for what we get, only bitch is the inactivity by ACMA to mitigate compliance. But this is another matter, something the WIA should have addressed with ACMA a long time ago.

I agree, that part of the WIA poll requires clarification. Its not clear to me exactly what they are asking.

What do they mean by "simplification", or "self-regulation".

Seems to me like they are asking us leading questions. I'm not sure I like where they might be leading.
