I listened a bit on FT8 earlier, lots of US and European Stations on 40M, this is about 30 minutes of signals on the PSK reporter map.

Looking pretty good Bill, I think the noise is lower with the linear regulator, but it was already pretty good anyway.
Hi Ray. The Rcvr seems to work well with either regulator. Small glitch this morning, found an untight power connector screw, fixed now.

I've just done a pcb update that has a common mode choke on the input as well as the output, and a large electro on the input power.
Next pay period I may get it made to see how it works.

If there was space in the case, maybe we could piggy back a usb connection board on the back? as per bellow pdf it looks, there is not much too it, i could make this with suitable mounting holes.

I will see if I can fit a USB on it. Or it could be an external one using the USB PCB I made for the server PSs.

Hi Ray. The strong spur on 3616 appears to be a component of a harmonic series radiating from the modem. I cannot at this stage find the fundamental. The same spur can be found on the following freq. 1718,1750,2066,2583,3099,3616,4133,5166,5683,6717,7233,7751,8784,9301. I am sure that would continue. When calculations are made the following numbers pop out. 32, 316, 517,1033. The modem radiates quite strongly and when testing the range with a portable receiver the harmonics fall to a reasonably low level at about 50 meters. The fence which runs alongside even though it is grounded by all the steel posts picks up and re radiates the harmonics. The receiver is still very good to use generally, Cheers.

Hi Bill, I have LM323 (5V/3A) about to mount on chassis will bring it over on friday, will check what current is under load so keep current drain minimum. Plus, Ray has given me a 30meg LP filter we can use.

You've been busy Bill with all those harmonic calculations. I will bring my laptop, router and web888 etc. we can do a check offline directly into the local PC.

The cellular modem will have several of its own internal dc dc stages, as it has quite a wide input voltage. It is probably worth adding ferrites on its dc input as well if they are not there already. (this goes for just about everything these days as the processor voltage are so low.)

The cellular modem need not be local to the sdr. you could place it up to 100m away(if you had power), the shielded ethernet cable I made up is certainly not long enough for that. I can keep an eye out for a roll of cat 6 ethernet cable you can give that a try too to see if it is worth it.

Thanks Josh, some good tips. no ferrites on DC just across the battery, we can move the modem and see what happens.

Finished the Anderson power board, rack frame made (thanks Kevin 3KFM for parts) will paint it black, and a 5v LM323 reg supply -quick homebrew half finished will attach a few USB sockets for quick connections

A noise report for the Listening Post. Today at 1300 Hrs. 26/5. On 20 meters with the antenna disconnected and with the receiver set to USB, the noise floor was indicated as about S2, then with the antenna connected the noise was indicated as about S5.

Bill, have a new 90Ah battery should be good when the sun don't shine, moded already with terminals
and a fuse.
Also have found the perfect float charger in my junk box.

GV batteries gave me a 10% discount when I told him it was for a Shepp radio club 👍

I've received 2 emails today reporting how great the SDR is performing.

Hi Dallas. The battery looks to be a good one. We will fit the solar panel and regulator as soon as we get the chance. One day soon? let me know, cheers.

Construction of the antenna impedance transformer housing is nearly completed. The image shows the general idea. Note the specially designed and made to order Binding Post made of brass with specially shaped nuts - it should be a delight to use !!. I will fit it soon.

Few changes on the Fly Dog.
- ADC clock adjustment, frequency display now accurate
- loaded a json file (courtesy of Paul VK3KHZ) - thanks Paul. Icon/bookmarks now display call sign on AM MW band, clicking an icon takes you to the station.
- Interesting station on 909kHz for those into MW DX (China ?)
- did you know that 3630kHz is the VK/ZL slow scan TV calling channel?
